Meet Elizabeth Poirrier

As I thought about what you might be feeling or looking for when beginning your search for a therapist, I struggled with what to write here that would be important to you. It takes a lot of courage to reach out and find help and I want you to know your therapy space will be one where you are safe, accepted and not judged, and where you are free to be yourself - unfiltered and authentic…this is your safe space, I want you to be you.

I think it’s important for you to know that my journey has often been filled with challenges that were sometimes difficult to navigate. During some of those experiences where I found myself hurting and in need of additional support, I turned to the supportive space of a therapist, so that I could heal, gain insight through processing difficult experiences, and still forge ahead in my life, finding fulfillment and contentment. It is that support I received in therapy, along with acceptance and a listening ear, that drew me to the path of becoming a therapist.

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFT-A), I am passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families navigate the complexities of their relationships and overcome challenges. With experience working in non-profit, private practice, and school settings, I have developed a compassionate and client-centered approach to therapy, tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual and family I work with. My work is informed by a strengths-based approach and the belief that every person has within them strengths they can build upon to overcome difficulties and challenges. I believe in creating a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. Drawing from evidence-based practices such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, and narrative therapy, I empower my clients to identify and utilize their strengths to achieve their therapeutic goals.

My goal is to help my clients foster healthier relationships, improve communication skills, and develop effective coping strategies to navigate life's challenges. Whether you're facing difficulties in your relationship, struggling with family conflicts, or seeking personal growth, I am here to support you on your journey toward healing and self-discovery.

More thoughts from Elizabeth…

  • Because everyone needs balance in life, when I am not in session with you, I am spending time with my husband and loving on our three golden retrievers, cooking and baking, watching sports, and trying to take care of myself physically and emotionally. And sometimes that means I am doing nothing when I feel like I should be doing something.

  • I am honored to help people optimize their mental health by integrating the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of their well-being, in order to live the lives they hope for.

  • The name Pear Tree Therapy comes from my last name, Poirrier which means “pear tree” in French. It is the perfect representation of the work I long to do with clients, as the flower essence of pears is routinely used to ease tensions associated with trauma and bring a sense of rhythm and peace, as well as stability, during major life changes.
